Ord Minnett Appoints Head of Financial Planning

Ord Minnett has announced the appointment of Derrick Lobban to the position of Head of Financial Planning. Derrick’s most recent role was National Manager Commonwealth Financial Planning, managing a team of over 700 planners.

“This is the first of a series of positive strategic initiatives that we believe will proactively position Ord Minnett to continue to grow in 2012, while others in the industry contract.

Derrick has over 20 years’ experience in the financial planning industry and will be integral to enhancing our existing Financial Planning business,” said Mr Tim Gunning, CEO, Ord Minnett.

As Head of Financial Planning, Derrick will be responsible for recruitment of financial planners and managing the support functions that will facilitate growth for new and existing financial planners alike.

“There is a great opportunity to expand the traditional Ords offering in the private wealth space, and we will be actively recruiting experienced senior planners to help us achieve this goal across our national network of offices,” said Mr Lobban.

Derrick will be based in the Adelaide office and in addition to managing Ord Minnett’s financial planning business, he will also take over responsibility managing the Adelaide office.

The financial planning role had been previously supported out of Sydney by Michael Arthur, who will continue to work with Derrick on the future development of Ords’ planning business, in addition to his role as a Senior Adviser. The Adelaide office was managed by Nick Ross, but after a long tenure Nick is retiring as Branch Manager, to focus on his private clients.

Rather than the sombre mood that pervades the industry, Ord Minnett is looking to build its business and has already enhanced its research team this year.

“In addition to Derrick’s appointment we recently appointed senior market analyst Craig Turton and are looking for a Senior Investment Analyst to join our Sydney team,” remarked Mr Gunning.

“The impending commencement of the FOFA reforms provides a great opportunity for Ord Minnett to accelerate the growth of our financial planning business, helping clients to grow their wealth through direct investment in domestic and international equities and fixed income products,” concluded Mr Gunning.
