Alastair Hunter- Head of Institutional Research
Alastair joined Ord Minnett in January 2023 as Head of Institutional Research. Alastair has over 30 years experience working in the Australian investment markets. Previously Chief Investment Officer for an investment manager and over 20 years within the Investment Research team of JBWere/Goldman Sachs, including a decade as Head of Investment Research. Alastair’s equity analyst focus has largely been on the financial sector and he was a top rated Bank analyst. Alastair holds Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the University of Melbourne.
Simon Kent-Jones - Head of Private Client Research
Simon joined Ord Minnett in October 2006 from Macquarie Bank, where he worked for over 13 years. As the Head of Private Client Research, Simon is responsible for investment strategy and portfolio management, working across our adviser network. Simon is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds a Master of Economics and a Bachelor of Business.
Phillip Chippindale - Senior Research Analyst
Phillip has spent over 7 years in Equity Research, following previous experience on the Buy side and investment banking. Phillip has experience in covering a broad array of sectors including materials, technology, tourism and general industrials.
Phillip is a CFA Charter holder. He has a double degree in Science and Laws (Hons) from the University of Sydney, and a Grad Diploma in Applied Finance and Investments.
Ian Munro - Senior Research Analyst
Ian has more than 12 years of experience in institutional equities research, covering emerging companies across a range of sectors, and has consistently ranked in the top quartile by Bloomberg for returns. His prior experience includes stockbroking and investment management in the European and Middle East and North African (MENA) markets. Ian holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Melbourne Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne.
John O'Shea - Senior Research Analyst
John has spent over 15 years in Equity Research with stockbroking following previous experience in accounting, investment banking and investment management.
He currently specialises on researching the travel and tourism sector with a focus on key industry data and sector thematics. He is a regular speaker at travel industry conferences and forums.

Hugh is a Research Associate in the Sydney Office having joined the Retail Research Team at the beginning of 2023. Since joining Ord Minnett in December 2019, Hugh was previously an Adviser Assistant for a team of Senior Private Client Advisers. Hugh holds a Bachelor of Economics, majoring in Economics and Finance from the University Sydney.
Walter Watson - Research Editor
Walter is the editor of Ord Minnett’s regular retail investor publications, such as the Opening Bell, Ords Weekly and the Ords Monthly, along with the various investment guides and investor information published by Ord Minnett. He has spent more than 25 years researching and writing about Australian and international financial markets for a number of organisations.
Prior to joining Ord Minnett in 2013, Walter was an editor across various sections at The Australian Financial Review, and before that a financial journalist and editor at Reuters specialising in markets and corporate coverage. His early career was at the Australian Stock Exchange where he was a senior analyst in the Statex arm of the ASX research department.
Walter holds a Bachelor of Arts, with majors in Economics and Legal Studies, and is RG146 compliant.

Athena is a Research Analyst in the Sydney Office where she is responsible for providing market commentary and trade ideas on Listed Interest Securities and Exchange-Traded Funds.
Athena joined the Research team part-time in 2016 whilst working as the Desk Assistant for the Ord Minnett Fixed Interest Team. Prior to joining Ords, she was a Senior Equities and Derivatives Associate at Commsec Adviser Services.
She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Malcolm Wood - Head of Asset Allocation and Philanthropic Services
Malcolm joined Ord Minnett in February 2021 from EL&C Baillieu where he was Chief Investment Officer for three years. Earlier he was Managing Director, Head of Investment Strategy at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Australia. Across 15 years at Morgan Stanley he was Investment Strategist in Wealth Management Australia, Asia-Pacific Regional equity strategist in Hong Kong, and Australia strategist and Head of Research. Prior to that he was a US equities portfolio manager for BT Australia in New York.
He holds a Bachelor of Economics with First Class Honours (Sydney University) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management with Merit (MGSM).
Milo Ferris - Research Associate
Milo is a Research Associate in the Sydney Office having joined the Institutional Research Team in 2021.

Paul Kaner - Senior Research Analyst
Paul is a Senior Research Analyst with over 5 years’ experience within institutional equities research, covering both precious and base metals. Prior to switching to the sell-side he worked in the industry as a Geologist for 5 years with the majority of that time spent at IGO. He obtained his Bachelor of Science from The University of Western Australia in 2011 and his Masters of Banking and Finance from Monash in 2016.
George Rodriguez - Research Associate
George joined Ord Minnett as a Research Associate in October 2021 from EL & C Baillieu where he worked as an Associate Financial Adviser providing investment recommendations and advice to his clients. Dylan is a Research Associate in the Institutional Research Team. Dylan joined Ord Minnett in February 2022 from Lonsec, where he had been a member of the Direct Equities Research Team since 2019.
Dylan is a CFA charter holder. Dylan also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and has been admitted to membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand as a Chartered Accountant.
William Thurlow - Mining Research Associate
William is a Mining Research Associate and joined Ord Minnett in March 2022. He assists in providing coverage of base, precious metals and coal equities within Ord Minnett’s Institutional Research Team. Previously William spent over 7 years working in the mining industry as a mining engineer in both leadership and technical roles.
Most recently he was an Alternate Underground Manager with IGO at the Nova operation, and he previously worked for BHP at Olympic Dam. William has a Masters of Finance and Accounting, a Bachelor of Engineering – Mining (First Class Honours), holds a WA First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency and is a member of AusIMM.
Tim Elder - Research Associate
Tim joined Ord Minnett as a research associate in late 2022 with more than nine years experience in financial services. Prior to this, Tim worked for Queensland Treasury Corporation providing a range of financial advisory services to energy and water utilities. Tim holds a Bachelor of Business from Queensland University of Technology.

James has also worked in Investment Management as a Portfolio Manager, managing a portfolio of high quality Australian companies.
Malcolm Wood - Head of Asset Allocation and Philanthropic Services
Malcolm joined Ord Minnett in February 2021 from EL&C Baillieu where he was Chief Investment Officer for three years. Earlier he was Managing Director, Head of Investment Strategy at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Australia. Across 15 years at Morgan Stanley he was Investment Strategist in Wealth Management Australia, Asia-Pacific Regional equity strategist in Hong Kong, and Australia strategist and Head of Research. Prior to that he was a US equities portfolio manager for BT Australia in New York.
He holds a Bachelor of Economics with First Class Honours (Sydney University) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management with Merit (MGSM).
Milo Ferris - Research Associate
Milo is a Research Associate in the Sydney Office having joined the Institutional Research Team in 2021.
Milo joined Ord Minnett at the beginning of 2019 as a Desk Assistant for 6 Senior Private Client Advisers.
Milo holds a Bachelor of Commerce, with a double major in Economics and Finance, from the University of Notre Dame, Sydney as well his Core 1 – Securities and Managed Investments accreditation from SAFAA.
Paul Kaner - Senior Research Analyst
Paul is a Senior Research Analyst with over 5 years’ experience within institutional equities research, covering both precious and base metals. Prior to switching to the sell-side he worked in the industry as a Geologist for 5 years with the majority of that time spent at IGO. He obtained his Bachelor of Science from The University of Western Australia in 2011 and his Masters of Banking and Finance from Monash in 2016.
George Rodriguez - Research Associate
George joined Ord Minnett as a Research Associate in October 2021 from EL & C Baillieu where he worked as an Associate Financial Adviser providing investment recommendations and advice to his clients. George has a background in engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Finance and Economics) from The University of Melbourne. George recently passed the CFA level 2 exam and he speaks fluent Spanish.
Benjamin Yun - Research Associate
Ben joined Ord Minnett’s Institutional Research Team at the start of August 2021. Previous to Ords, he spent five years at Value Investment Partners in Manly as a Buy-Side Investment Analyst, covering equities in the ASX 200 as well as managed funds in the international equities and fixed income space. Ben holds a Bachelor of Business majoring in Finance and International Business from the University of Technology, Sydney, and is a CFA Level III Candidate.
Dylan Jones - Research Associate
Dylan is a Research Associate in the Institutional Research Team. Dylan joined Ord Minnett in February 2022 from Lonsec, where he had been a member of the Direct Equities Research Team since 2019.
Dylan is a CFA charter holder. Dylan also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and has been admitted to membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand as a Chartered Accountant.
William Thurlow - Mining Research Associate
William is a Mining Research Associate and joined Ord Minnett in March 2022. He assists in providing coverage of base, precious metals and coal equities within Ord Minnett’s Institutional Research Team. Previously William spent over 7 years working in the mining industry as a mining engineer in both leadership and technical roles.
Most recently he was an Alternate Underground Manager with IGO at the Nova operation, and he previously worked for BHP at Olympic Dam. William has a Masters of Finance and Accounting, a Bachelor of Engineering – Mining (First Class Honours), holds a WA First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency and is a member of AusIMM.
Tim Elder - Research Associate
Tim joined Ord Minnett as a research associate in late 2022 with more than nine years experience in financial services. Prior to this, Tim worked for Queensland Treasury Corporation providing a range of financial advisory services to energy and water utilities. Tim holds a Bachelor of Business from Queensland University of Technology.
Rushil Paiva - Research Analyst
Rushil has over 9 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry, including over 5 years’ experience as an institutional equity research analyst. Prior to joining Ord Minnett, he worked for Stifel based in London, covering European Building Materials, Construction and Infrastructure. Prior to that, he worked for Evans and Partners based in Sydney, covering Industrials, Small Caps and Diversified Financials. Rushil is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from Deakin University.
Lucy Krimmer - Research Associate
Lucy is a Research Associate in the Sydney Office having joined Ord Minnett in June 2022. Lucy recently completed a Bachelor of Science (double major in Financial Mathematics and Statistics, Finance) at the University of Sydney.
