Antony Shaw appointed Chief Executive Officer of Ord Minnett

October 1, 2026

In a move billed to take Ord Minnett (Ords) through its next chapter of growth, the firm has announced the appointment of Antony Shaw, who will join the firm in October as an Executive Director before commencing the role of Chief Executive Officer in February 2027.

Mr Shaw will succeed Karl Morris AO, who will move into the Executive Chairman role in February 2027 and remain working full time at Ords.

Mr Morris said after a two-year search for the next CEO, Mr Shaw has the track record and experience to launch Ords into its next phase of growth.

“Antony brings global leadership experience to Ord Minnett, which will help drive growth across the whole business. He is very well respected and has decades of senior banking and finance experience, so we are thrilled he will lead our firm,” Mr Morris said.

“We are an Australian-owned wealth management firm, and Antony’s recent role as Australia & New Zealand CEO for international bank HSBC will bring incredibly valuable experience and insight for Ords as we continue to deliver for our clients,” he said.

Mr Shaw spent more than 23 years at HSBC, working across Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and the Middle East. He is currently Chair of Global Engagement for the Business Council of Australia and a Board Member of Asia Society Australia.

“Throughout the two-year search, we looked for an exceptionally talented leader who could bring a corporate-focused lens to Ords, with a proven track record of growth and success for clients. We believe we have found that leader in Antony and look forward to his leadership in the years to come,” Mr Morris said.

Antony Shaw: New leadership, same focus

Antony Shaw said he was excited by the appointment and looks forward to leading the firm while continuing its client-first focus.

"It is a privilege to lead an Australian-owned business with such a proud history and strong client-first culture,” Mr Shaw said.

“While the leadership will change in 2027, the focus remains the same: delivering first-class service for our clients and helping them achieve their goals.

“It is clear to me there are significant opportunities across the board for Ords, particularly at a time when the advice industry in Australia is experiencing significant demand.

“I recognise both the opportunities and challenges ahead, and I look forward to building on Karl Morris' legacy as we take the firm into its next chapter," he said.

Leadership transition

Mr Morris will work closely with Mr Shaw before moving to the Executive Chairman role in February, the same position he held before becoming CEO in 2019.

When Mr Morris transitions to Executive Chairman, the Hon. Warwick Smith AO will conclude his role as Chairman of the Board.

“Warwick has made an incredibly valued contribution to Ord Minnett since joining the Board in 2020, and on behalf of everyone at the firm, I thank him for his leadership and service,” Mr Morris said.

“His dedication has gone beyond just the Board, Chairing Ord Minnett’s Charities Fund, which with the help of many of our staff, continues to make an impact to many charities around Australia.”
